Determining whether a patient is a candidate for LVC or implant surgery is probably the most important step in the process. Dr. Behler performs the most comprehensive and thorough exam essential for greater safety and outstanding results. This evaluation not only determines whether LVC or lens implant procedure is the safest and best choice but determines what refractive endpoint would best suit the individual patient. Dr. Behler uses his 20 years experience in laser and non-laser refractive procedures to identify who is better suited for LASIK or refractive implants, monovision or no monovision, what is targeted goal, what is the best approach to astigmatism etc… Your evaluation will include wavescan analysis 25 times more precise than standard measurements used for glasses and contact lens. Wavescan can also identify patients (before having surgery) who many experience night glare after LASIK. After this evaluation you will know what is safest and best for you.

Including in this evaluation is:

• Medical History including medications that that may effect outcomes
• Tests for ocular surface disease including signs of dry eye , tear film production
• Refraction. Manifest.cycloplegic, wavescan refraction. It is critical to have close agreement between these measurements.
• Wavescan refraction: 25 times more accurate than conventional refraction
• Pupil size evaluated with infrared pupillometry and wavescan analysis
• Computerized topography with the Zeiss Atlas
• Corneal curvature. Corneal curvature should be within a particular range. Corneas too steep or too flat may exclude a patient from having LVC
• Pachymetry; Corneal thickness is an important determinant between PRK LASIK or lens procedures
• Mulifactorial regression analysis of attributes affecting outcome
